Getting started
Use this sequence to put Bureaucramancer into a server without turning on more data collection than you intended.
1. Install with the permissions you actually need
Add Bureaucramancer through its Discord application install flow. The bot can only see or act in places Discord permits it to access. Keep staff-only channels and role-management permissions limited to what the enabled modules require.
2. Sign in to the dashboard
Open the Bureaucramancer dashboard and sign in with Discord. The server picker shows installed guilds the signed-in account can manage. High-impact settings require Discord Administrator access.
3. Run Guided Setup
The setup wizard offers three starting profiles: Protection for backups/recovery, Archive for history/search plus protection, and Full Administration for the complete administration toolset. You can change individual modules afterwards.
4. Choose retention deliberately
Select a retention preset or use the Privacy page for exact settings. Archive retention is intentionally bounded and is not an indefinite transcript store. Server operators remain responsible for explaining their chosen processing to members.
5. Create a recovery baseline
Open Backups and create or confirm a structural snapshot. Check Attachment Protection for exceptions. A recovery feature should not be treated as ready until the dashboard shows evidence that the relevant data exists.
6. Configure trusted staff
Use the module/access controls to limit sensitive commands and dashboard work to the staff who need them. Archive search, exports, moderation cases, restores and privacy fulfilment can expose sensitive community information.
7. Publish your server notice
Tell members which Bureaucramancer modules are enabled, what they are used for, the retention period, and where members should direct privacy questions. The Privacy documentation provides a controller checklist.
8. Check status and test recovery
Use the public Status page for service health. Before relying on Bureaucramancer for continuity, test a small non-critical restore or recovery workflow so your team knows what reconstructed records look like.
